Ojai Pirate Faire and Ojai Renaissance Faire, but especially the Ojai PYRATE Faire!
About Me
"They call the Wynd Myriah, and the Wynd shall carry my songs."
Myriah Rasha~Ayla Wyndsong, a chosen name....Like a breath of fresh air, that carries a tune to your heart, I come into your life. However, I also come with jagged edges and raw surfaces.
I come with baggage, battered and bruised, but with a strength of character that is beyond measure.
Love me? Hold me? Can you grasp the Wynd?"
I am a role playing pirate reenactor. My character is "Sir Rasha Calliphree", knighted by "Queen Elizabeth" at the Ojai Pirate Faire. I portray a "Privateer for England, a Knyght of Queen Elizabeth's Realm, Commodore of a fleet of ships, (including the Galendere, the Valiant, the Privateer, the North Star, and the Golden Hiney), Captain of the Galendere, Guildmaster of the Gypsy Pyrates and Faire Friend to Many!" I have been doing ren faires and SCA events for almost 34 years.
I am also a Gypsy at Heart and Hobo by Nature.
Music
80's music tops the list! I greatly enjoy music from the Big Band era as well as Gypsy and Hobo music.
I prefer music from the 80's, and the 20's through the 60's. I also enjoy some country music and "elevator music".
I like soothing instrumentals nothing with "tiney" sounds of piano or guitar that is too harsh.
I dislike music from the 70's, and I abhor rap music, hip hop and heavy metal and hard rock.
Give me Beatles, Garth Brooks, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, John Denver, Manowar, and other 80's musicians, odd choices, I know. *Shrugs* What can I say?

Virtues
Despite already being knighted in my "pretend life", I still try to maintain the qualities of a Knyght in the making in my real life. I value Honesty, Loyalty, Committment, Respect, Courage, Love, Compassion and Communication. I can be depended on and am as secure and stable as my Taurean sign will have me be!
Heroes
Myself, for I have survived a lot in this world and I have given a lot back. I am 46 years old, and have experienced more than most people can handle in five lifetimes in just one! But I don't let it get me down and I have learned to live and grow with what I have been given in life. I have a great head on my shoulders and I know how to use it! But there is still that part of me that, like Peter Pan, refuses to grow up....that's why I can have the fun that I do! I can take care of myself and have done so for many, many years....but its always nice to be pampered and looked after now and again, eh?
:)
(If you have already seen this message, I apologize,...trying to get it out to as many Rennies and Scanadians as possible....if you aren't interested in purchasing it, please help spread the word that its available for sale, thanks!)
Hail All,
Trying to sell the small tent that I recently acquired for our guild but the deal we had with someone fell through today, so its being offered back up for sale again. You may recall seeing it set up at the last Pirate Faire. It is a Panther Primitive pavilion called the "Regent" and you will find a description of it listed below from the Panther catalog. This tent is their 12 X 12 tent with full set up kit including poles, ropes and hand forged heavy duty tent stakes. It also has the full porch fly awning with poles, ropes and stakes. It is white canvas with blue trim on the dagging.
Please note that this tent is all ONE PIECE, the walls are attached to the ceiling and are NOT removable. It makes for very easy set up, taking only four corner poles and a center pole, and 8 ropes to set up, but it does not allow you to remove the walls. However, there are access door panels on two sides of the tent, which do allow you to open up two sides to allow the breeze to blow through, or you can also roll up the sides and tie them up. It IS a Panther Pavilion, so you know the quality is great, and is owned by the Gypsy Pyrates, so you know it has been taken care of. There may be a very small amount of dirt staining on it, near the bottom, due to setting up and taking down, but there are no rips, tears, holes, missing peices or anything of that nature to deal with.
I am asking $900.00 for this tent set up, awning and all the "rigging". This tent is in GREAT condition and would make a great STARTER TENT for yourself or a GUILD TENT for ren faires, SCA events, regular camping, events, etc. It can be used to sleep about 8 people snug, or 4 people and gear....its called a "family style tent". We personally have slept six in it with gear, happy, comfortable and dry! It would also make a great KITCHEN TENT for a guild or a nice tent for a BUSINESS/BOOTH AT FAIRES, as your business can be set up and run under the fly area, or inside the tent, during the day and stored inside it at night. It can also be used for events that are not ren faire related, such as a command tent for FUNDRAISERS, walk-a-thons, FOOD BOOTH, wedding TENT RENTAL, MASSAGE THERAPY tent, etc.
With your tent, you will receive directions on how to set it up. I will also consider selling the tent without the awning as separate deals. I am in need of a vehicle and will consider trading the tent for a portion of the payment being a used working car or truck....tell me what you have?
I am posting a representative picture of the Panther Primitve tent style, but keep in mind that this is a picture from their catalog and is ONLY a representation of the size. The tent that I have for sale does NOT have the painted roof like the one in the picture and the scalloped dagging is different, more rounded. My tent and awning are only white canvas with blue trim, no roof markings. The awning is much newer, so the blue on the trim is shaded only slightly differently, as the tent trim does show a very small amount of color fading.
If you wish to consider purchasing this tent, please contact me at GypsyPyrates@yahoo.com. You will need to make arrangements with me for picking it up in Arroyo Grande, CA. I will consider shipping it, but the cost of that shipping is NOT included in the selling price and you would be responsibile for ALL shipping charges.....however, I may be able to get a good discount for shipping it through my business. I may also consider delivery to you depending on how close you are. I will accept cash, check or money order, but if receiving payment by check, I will wait until the check is cleared before shipping the tent out. There may be a way for you to work out a credit card payment as well if you wish to use a charge card to purchase it. I will also consider a layaway type program if someone wants to do half down and pay off the rest before ren faire season starts back up in March. If you or your guild wish to purchase the tent from our guild, or have a vehicle to trade, let's talk!
I would not mind if you help spread the word of this tent offer for sale. Please help spread the word that I have this tent for sale. Thank you everyone,
"A very popular style throughout the ages, the Regent is fabulous for an average sized family with gear. It sets up with one center pole and four corner poles. Walls are 6’ high on our standard Regent. The roof portion is square while the base of the slanted walls is an octagon. This gives you LOTS OF ROOM without having to cart around all those poles! The Regent is a one piece tent, made with two doorways to give you plenty of ventilation on hot days! Above each door we sew a flap so that you can add a canopy fly on either, or both sides of your tent. These flaps are standard on all Regent Pavilions and they have D-Rings sewn underneath for attaching the fly. If you order the fly it will drastically increase your outside socializing area. (NOTE: The Fly is included with the price of my tent) We make these the same width as the eave of your tent and they extend 12’ forward. The flys attach above your doorway with snaps and D-rings and two matching grommets to go over your tent’s corner pole pins. The front edge of the fly uses two 6’ upright poles, and a central prop pole provides slope for rain. All three of these poles, as well as ropes and stakes are included in the Set-Up Package for the canopy fly."
I think that Lompoc Festival went over really well! I heard great things from the vendors, the participants and the patrons! I enjoyed it and for those of you that went, I hope you did to!
CONGRATS JUSTIN! I hope the gate showed good results for you, it seemed that there was always a good crowd! Hope it shows that Lompoc wants it and that the city folk were pleased with the results too. Heard there was a good article in today's paper. Glad to hear of it! Santa Maria Sun Times was also supposed to have an article on Thursday, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet. Will get both of them tomorrow. Thank you Justin, for allowing the Gypsy Pyrates to be a part of it! We had fun :) For those of you that were not able to attend, it was a nice event and you should try to attend next year!
I did have a bout with heat exhaustion though on Saturday, which really surprised me and literally snuck up on me! I was fine one moment, eating, hydrating, doing what needed to be done, gigging, etc. and the next moment I wasn't and ready to see gray zone by passing out. Thankfully, I got to my tent on time and laid down, drank water, gatorade, and ate a banana for the potassium. It felt really weird, and oddly enough I felt cold, which was very odd, considering the heat. Had Anthony (one of my favorite nurses!) check me out and didn't have to get an IV or anything, so that was good! He also wanted me to eat some more salty stuff, like that is a problem for me! *smiles* Thank you Anthony! I GREATLY appreciated being checked out by you! *Smiles, winks and hugs* But getting the water, gatorade, banana and salt levels back up really helped. Although I don't know why it happened because I was over hydrated as it was.
I think Rachel and Sarah saved my ass though by giving me Gatorade crystals to eat. Instead of mixing it into water, you just eat the powder straight to avoid a bout with heat exhaustion. Its sort of like eating "pixie sticks". It worked almost instantly, and I was really surprised. But I felt better soon after doing this and was then able to keep hydrating. New trick that I was very pleased to learn.....Thanks Rachel and SarahI would tell all guilds, **PUT GATORADE CRYSTALS INTO YOUR FIRST AID KITS FOR HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE!" It felt sort of what it must feel like when you are supposed to give an asprin to someone having a heartattack, or insulin to somone having a diabetic episode...the effect was that instant. And also know the symptoms of it in case one of your guildmates goes down with it. They might not just be drunk! It might just save someone's life.
We look forward to seeing everyone again so soon at Ojai! And I am VERY THANKFUL that Rob and Michelle of Merrie Wreath Consort were able to take some of our guild belongings from this faire and to Ojai for us. We would have had to make at least one more trip back there tonight if they hadn't....so THANK YOU YOU TWO! :) Also, thankful to Jen of Ice Penguins for taking Tristian's friend home, it really helped and we didn't have to tie anyone onto the hood of the car! THANK YOU!
Rob and Lydia....THANK YOU for my most awesome cloak! I am STOKED! It wouldn't have came to be without your offer and Lydia's seamtress abilities! I never would have gotten around to making it, and now I will have it for Ojai too, where its REALLY needed! Was glad to keep the cold and moisture off my bed with it at night too! KUDOS and LOVE to you both! Rob....just so you know....I think that you are a dear, despite that facade you put on! ;) You two are sweethearts! XOXOXO
I am also thankful that many of the Shadow Walkers came out on Saturday. I just wish you all would have stayed! The entire camp was shut down and quiet by around midnight Sat. night and I was the last one up well into the wee hours of the morn! Where were all the people that like to keep the tavern open later? *Smiles* See you at Ojai!
Lastly....I want to thank everyone, but especially the Penguins and Merrie Wreaths for making faire be ok for me this weekend. It was a little hard for me....no, it was a lot hard....but as you know, it is what it is. I am glad that I had friends there to laugh and share time with. And like I told you all around the fire Saturday night.....I wish to say thank you again, for treating Rachel with kindness and respect Saturday. It was hard for her too, and we wish to remain friends....I am glad that all of you are accepting and just showed her kindness and support also on my behalf. It was...is...truly appreciated. Especially from Shaunden! Cause I know he was feeling like he just didn't understand it all, but was willing to offer kindness, or throw down for me, which ever was needed! Thank you hon! *Smiles* And as for Bob....well, my dear....you should just know.....when you get to my camp, don't even ask anymore...just ENTER! :) Thank you, Friend. And I am SO SORRY about your accident. I am glad you survived it! Glad to know you saw another birthday!
See you all on Friday!
"The Commodore" (and I only am, because you ALL make it so! Thanks!)
Alas, I'll be draining customers of their bodily fluids elsewhere. (I have to work at the hospital all weekend) But I look farward to seein' ya at Ojai in 1 weeks time!
